"Privé de Désert" (private of desert) is the meeting of two universes around a project inspired by rhythms specific of the desert, like a caravan swaying calmly along.
The group is made up of musicians with varied and unusual experience uniting jazz, improvisation and world music.
The repertoire consists of original works inspired by traditional Middle Eastern music and jazz.
The meeting of instruments as varied as oud, oboe (and its cousin the English horn), piano and cello, supported by rich, finely ornamented rhythms ; the original approach of the piano harmonies similar to those of a quanoun, santur or psaltry ; the refinement of the sonorities of the oboe, with its double reed principle originating in Mesopotamia ; the interlacing play of the oud (a favorite instrument of the Middle East) with that of the cello and English horn whose sonorities are often compared to those of the human voice, all transform this variety of instruments into one true family.
Premiere, February 22, 2006 - Festival "Ca va Jazzer" - France
